Contemporary Eco Kitchen in the Cotswolds

by Nicky Spear

We love a challenge here at Sustainable Kitchens and are constantly looking out for interesting projects to get our teeth stuck into.  When the opportunity arose to design and build a plywood, contemporary eco kitchen in a beautiful and unique eco house designed by Architect Charlie Luxton we could barely contain our excitement.

Tara’s love for cooking, her need for a kitchen in which she could run Vientamese cookery classes and a passion for clean modern design really drove the design process for this kitchen.  From the very beginning Tara knew that the worktop absolutely had to be stainless steel and very quickly decided to finish the cabinetry in exposed Birch Plywood.

We are overjoyed with the floating shelf which we fabricated from the leftover Dinesen floorboards laid throughout the house, it glides seamlessly around the room, houses discreet LED lighting and houses the extractor.  The piece de resistance for me is that centre island; clad on 3 sides with stainless steel and running on immense industrial castors, it wheels effortlessly around the room.

Tara also kept a detailed blog about the whole project, if your interested in hearing about the whole process then please visit her website Future.Simple.Passive.
