Sustainable Kitchens, previously know as It Woodwork was established in 2008,
It ‘s an independent kitchen design and installation company, working with clients across the Southwest. The company has been growing from strength to strength and has expanded rapidly in the past year and now has a unique opportunity for the right candidate to make their mark.
About the role
We are looking for a designer with at least 1 year’s experience to become part of our small innovative team. Currently the design team is made up of Sam the owner of Sustainable Kitchens who is the lead designer and Jane who is currently responsible for all the design work. We are looking for someone to come in and work with Jane for 6months learning the role then when Jane leaves in August, the candidate would take over her role and manage a new junior designer. Initially you would need to learn our systems and aesthetic and this takes time, the initial 6 month period would be a basic salary of £20,000 – £21,000 and then dependent on your experience and progression this could increase to £25,000 from September.
You will be working with the Head Designer and Junior Designer on our bespoke kitchen designs. You will be helping with room layouts and design alterations. You could also be required to help us design adverts and catalogues amongst other promotional materials. Ideally you will also be a keen writer and social media advocate. As we are a small team and we will need help in a variety of areas. You will also be working with the Head of Development with ongoing projects. You must be adaptable and able to complete a variety of tasks within the deadlines set.
Ideally we are looking for someone who has a broad range of skills and design experience. All the kitchen design work is on Sketchup Pro, so you need to have some understanding of the program, but we will provide training if you don’t.
We aren’t just looking for a designer but a candidate who lives and breathes design, someone who has their finger on the pulse of contemporary design innovations. We would like the successful candidate to be enthusiastic about their work and the kitchens industry. There will also be opportunities to write themed articles and communicate through social media channels.
Duties may include:
- Producing an accurate 3D drawing of the house/room
- Assisting the designer with alterations
- Producing promotional materials
- Working with the head of Development with ongoing projects
- At least 1+ years of design experience, preferable with interiors
- Basic Joinery knowledge
- Basic knowledge of Sketchup Pro
- Intermediate knowledge of Adobe Suite
- Mac User
- Good understanding of Excel and other Microsoft programs.
- Good communication skills
- Keen interest in contemporary interior design
- Keen interest in learning about woodworking & carpentry
- Interest in eco design and building solutions
- Practical and logical
- Ability to work well alone and in a small team
- Use initiative

- Full UK driving license

Designer: 4 days per week initially – moving to 5 when needed.
Salary: For the 6 month probationary period – £20,000-£21,000 then up to of £25,000 thereafter.
Working week: 8.30am – 5pm, Monday – Friday
