Supplier Spotlight: Perrin & Rowe
by Olga Alexandru
Supplier spotlight started as a conversation about the variety of people we work with outside of our organisation. From the lovely people who print our flyers to the companies who provide our wood we wanted to highlight who they are and the great work they’re doing. First up is Perrin & Rowe, who manufacture and supply gorgeous luxury taps for kitchens and bathrooms. We sat down with them to talk taps and trends.
Who are you and what do you do?
Katy Burrow, I recently joined Perrin & Rowe as Marketing Manager.
What is the best part of the job for you?
I have been able to visit our manufacturing facilities to see first-hand how everything is made and the passion and care that goes into making each product so I have been enjoying finding ways to share this sentiment with our dealers and end customers, whether it’s on social media, producing a new brochure or product launch.
How long has the company been around for?
The business was established by Bob Perrin & Greg Rowe in a shed in Bob’s back garden in Rainham, Essex back in the 70s – a lot has changed since then though! The business has grown massively since then and now holds over 127,000ft² of UK manufacturing space, exporting products around the world.
What is your favourite product and why?
I like traditional styles with a modern twist – my favourite products are probably the Mayan Bibcock Taps and the Phoenician mixer, I think they are timeless designs that will always look beautiful even if I were to change the styling in my kitchen. I would probably opt for a special finish though as I like something a bit different to the norm, perhaps satin or polished brass. I also really love the Polaris as it ticks the box for being traditional, but would also mean I could get steaming hot water without having to wait for the kettle to boil!
What does Perrin & Rowe specialise in?
Perrin & Rowe specialises in kitchen brassware, instant hot, filtration as well as bath and shower brassware and chinaware in a wide range of styles from traditional to country and contemporary and finishes from chrome to polished brass and gold. We’re special because everything we make is 100% British manufactured and tested to exceed industry standards. Our products are specified across the globe in luxury hotels, resorts and private residences.
What does sustainability mean to you?
Sustainability to me means operating and growing a business in a way that preserves the environment. Over the last 3 years, we have made significant reductions in our power and water consumption, as well as recycling brass waste, machine oils and packaging. I also believe that buying well made products that last is so important in reducing wastage globally.
What would be your #MeatFreeMonday recipe?
Probably stuffed Butternut squash – I bake a butternut squash then scoop some of the inside out and mix it with anything like feta cheese, pine nuts, rice and other roasted vegetables, load it back up and put back under the grill.
What are the upcoming trends in the tap industry?
We’re noticing a move towards added convenience and multi-functional products across all kitchens, not just high end ones – we launched our range of hot taps last year, with 3-in-1 models for new kitchen projects and mini add on taps that could be fitted into existing kitchens.
The trend for more unusual finishes continues to grow, we are seeing more projects where customers have mixed up textures to create more individual styles. While our traditional style collections in Chrome, Nickel and Pewter finishes are our bestsellers, we’re getting more orders for our range of special finishes – Polished Brass, Aged Brass, Satin Brass, English Bronze and 24 Carat Gold.
