CONTEMPORARY KITCHEN, WALK-IN LARDER

A simple, neutral palette brings casual style to this North London kitchen.

The Brief

Before they even think of aesthetics, our designers get to know our clients’ family lives and how they interact with their space on a daily basis. In getting to know this family, we realised the need to create different zones, which we achieved with stud walls as dividers. Aesthetics were important too, so we made sure to include a tall door on the left, which conceals a washing machine and tumble dryer.

An American-style fridge freezer with a wine rack is perfectly situated near the walk-in larder cupboard to provide the best balance for food preparation. Previously an awkward space, the walk-in larder now relieves the rest of the kitchen cabinetry from the storage of dry goods, allowing for a far less cluttered and simpler design.

On an adjacent wall, we positioned a tall oven tower and a sink run with wall cabinets above it. For this project, we opted for Biscotti Concreto, an engineered quartz that creates a simple and seamless finish for the worktop and splashback. Although our clients originally floated the idea of a concrete worktop, we worked with them to find a more sustainable solution.

Our client loved the view of their garden from the kitchen window, so we went the extra mile to make the most of it. The island, with its induction hob and downdraft extractor, was created with this in mind. The extractor sits flush with the worktop, and can be raised with the hob is in use: an excellent solution for extracting on a kitchen island unit.
