PEGBOARD PLYWOOD KITCHEN

This plywood kitchen in Bedminster, Bristol is truly bespoke and full of interesting features.

A moveable island; hand-painted pegboard; industrial castors; concrete and stainless steel worktops and geometric tiles pull together to make a cool, contemporary kitchen with bags of personality.

Pegboard Plywood Kitchen with integrated fridge freezer and fullheight larder cabinet

Playful Pegboard – The Brief

The team was briefed to design a creative, industrial kitchen that was fully bespoke to the space and the young family’s lifestyle. They paired birch plywood with recessed stainless steel kickboards, along with a concrete worktop from Tinney & Co. A chunky wrap-around floating plywood shelf was designed to house integrated LED lights, providing lots of display space for Kilner jars, artworks and accessories.
The focal feature of the kitchen is the moveable island, which contains the single oven and induction hob, along with deep storage drawers for pots and pans and slimline utensil drawers. The island sits on oversized, colourful, industrial castors with brakes. No detail was too small: even the oven and hob are connected with orange and yellow curly cables.
The design team developed a close relationship with the family, and were able to make adjustments to ensure the island unit didn’t dominate the kitchen, or compromise the children’s play space. In fact, the kids were at the heart of the design: the back of the island includes a pegboard for the children to hang their toys and artwork.
With a large roof light, the client was able to offset the bright colour palette of the kitchen with a dark, dramatic grey. This show-stopping palette provides a happy complement to the geometric, monochrome tiles.

"It's one thing to have a dream about how you want something to look and function. It's another thing entirely to see it executed to perfection by a team of people who have enough faith and passion to think a hob in an island on giant castors isn't totally bonkers. Every line is millimetre-perfect and we feel incredibly lucky to have a kitchen that we continue to look at and think: 'bloody hell, that's beautiful'."
