The Brief

During our design consultation, we realised that our client’s family needed a beautiful but practical space with a large food prep area, plenty of storage and a handy spot for the children to do their homework.

We designed the space in the traditional Shaker style, mixing it with contemporary colours and finishes to create a fresh, modern take on the classic kitchen. This is a room that is all about the details: a polished chrome finish translates across the knobs and hinges, tying in with the stainless steel of the appliances.

Large, glazed doors sit at the end of the room, allowing plenty of light in. The family wanted the kitchen to be as light and airy as possible, which we achieved through a thoughtful balance of colour and reflective surfaces to help bounce the light into previously dark corners. It still needed a splash of colour though, so we went for a jewel shade of dark blue.

We designed this kitchen around its individual quirks. The chimney breast, for instance, is the main feature of the space. It is beautifully framed by our bespoke symmetrical, tall wall cabinets that fit into each alcove. The extractor is tucked away inside the chimney breast, too.

Our client wanted to be able to experiment with their cooking, so we added handy spice racks to each side of the range. This tactic perfectly suits the size and shape of a nifty and shallow spot.

The sink run includes a 1.5 bowl inset sink, with a large double bin, integrated dishwasher and a set of bespoke drawers. Look up and you’ll see a large, double wall cupboard, offering a beautiful area for displaying the client’s glassware and favourite cookbooks.

Our client likes to dine well, so we added a wine cooler to the end of the island. We chose this spot due to its proximity to the dinner table. If they’re entertaining and need to open another bottle, they hardly need to get up – allowing the conversation (and the wine!) to flow.
