White Shaker with Brass Worktop

The piece de resistance of this grand, white Shaker kitchen is undoubtedly the brass splashback. Contrasting with the pale tones of the cabinetry and the dark oak flooring, it creates a beautiful statement in a grand Georgian kitchen.

White Shaker Kitchen – The Brief

Have you ever seen a kitchen quite like this? Our White Shaker Kitchen with Brass Worktop is a masterclass in how to take a traditional design and make it truly your own.

Our clients have a busy family life. During their consultation with the Sustainable Kitchens design team, it quickly became apparent that designing a natural gathering point was crucial for their lifestyles. Working together, we decided that a large island unit with seating for five would have a social and aesthetic function, truly tying the room together. Three oversized pendants shine a light on this social aspect, and a Quooker Fusion Mixer tap providing boiling, hot and cold water encourages the family and their guests to have a chat over a cup of tea.

A generous bank of two double larders and an integrated freezer cabinet make the most of the high Georgian ceilings, providing ample storage to house (and hide) a combination oven and bespoke internal drawers. We handcrafted a hardwood ladder to smoothly slide along a brass rail, which gives the family easy access to the top cupboards. At their request, we made sure it was easy to store away when not in use by adding an extra rail at the far end of the cabinetry.

Some appliances were meant to be hidden, but having exposed glass display cabinets was key for the finishing touches of the room. We designed these alongside alcove shelving to allow the family to display its meticulously selected homewares.

We get a lot of questions about the beautiful worktop. The client sourced the natural brass himself. The brass is around 1mm thick and wrapped around a wooden core. We had it sanded with wire wool, which helps to achieve the brushed and matte finish.

Our client loved the kitchen so much, we even worked with them on their guest kitchen.
