Support Local Businesses this Christmas

by Nicky Spear

We love Bristol and being a part of the business community, with so many independents to support this Christmas; we’ve chosen a few of our favourites to help you find a gift this season. If you aren’t based in Bristol come and visit to experience all the wonderful things the city has to offer and support businesses local to you.

Interiors

Mon Pote is a delightful interiors shop on North Street, offering fantastic homewares and some great Christmas stockings if you’re still on the hunt for the perfect accessories this festive season.

Midgley Green offers a collection of products produced by local makers, from ceramics to soft furnishings there are some lovely handcrafted gifts ready to be snapped up.

Support Local Artists

Hamilton House is home to many artists and is an iconic converging point in Bristol. Show your support for Hamilton house this Christmas and explore their Coexsist shop which has recently expanded ready for their winter extravaganza.

Colab offers wonderful unique presents for those who love prints, handmade jewellery, clothing and more. Supporting 50 local artists there is bound to be something of interest.

Let’s talk food

Know someone who absolutely loves cheese? The Bristol Cheese Monger won the UK’s best speciality retailer at the Great British Cheese Awards 2017. They recently relocated to Whapping Wharf and are on hand to find the perfect cheese for you. They are so passionate about what they do and you always leave learning something new and tasting something utterly delicious.

If you are having an event and you’re looking for the perfect cake then look no further than Ahh Toots, they are serious about cake and they are pieces of art, just look at that red velvet…

Box E has been the talk of the town this year, being part of Cargo 1 at Whapping Wharf and with only 14 covers, it is a very intimate experience. The food is wonderful and they have a very special wine list that is second to none, with most of the wine being organic and sustainably sourced. Its the perfect treat for a romantic dinner for two.

What’s you’re tipple?

During the festive season we might like to treat ourselves to a special tipple and in Bristol, we are spoilt for choice.

Gin has become the drink of choice for many and my favourite place to find this particular spirit is at the wonderful Pyschopomp Distillery on St Michaels Hill. You can pop in to buy one of their seasonal bottles as a gift or take a seat in the distillery every night of the week. If you’re looking for a special experience as a present then you could also give the gift of distilling your own gin.

Craft Beer is synonymous with Bristol and there are so many great breweries around. Wiper & True have just opened their tap room on a Saturday, great for getting a few ales as gifts and if you know someone who is really keen on knowing more about the process then you can book them on a brewery tour.

Something new?

Listen to something different over the holidays and support the local podcast run by The Cosmic Shed Learn about science, science fiction and everything in between.

Support local business through using and introducing someone to the Bristol Pound, here is a directory of all the places where Bristol Pounds are accepted.

Have a wonderful festive season.
